# Currency and exchange rates

> Recording exchange rates, and finding the money the product cannot convert.

Where exchange rates are recorded, and where you find out what your plant has spent that no rate can
convert.

## Amounts that cannot be converted

The screen leads with this, because an unconverted amount is invisible everywhere else.

An amount recorded in a currency with no rate is left alone rather than converted at a guess. It is
not an error, nothing highlights it, and a cost report simply omits it — so a total can look
complete and be wrong. This list is the only place those amounts show up.

Each row says where the amount lives, which field it is, which currency it is in, what is missing,
and how many rows are waiting.

Record the rate and the next nightly pass picks them up.

## Recording a rate

Give the two currency codes, the rate, and the date it comes into force.

  **An amount is converted at the rate in force on the day it was recorded.** Entering today's rate
  does not revalue March. If old amounts are waiting, enter a rate dated from when they were
  recorded.

Rates are never edited. A later rate supersedes an earlier one and both stay on the record, so a
figure converted last quarter still shows what it was converted at.

## Rates on record

Every rate you have entered: the pair, the rate, the date it came into force, the date it stopped
applying if a later one has superseded it, and where it came from.

## Who can record a rate

Anyone who may edit your organisation's configuration — the two administrator roles and Maintenance
Manager, by default. Without that permission the rate form does not appear, and the rest of the
